Maker of Mesothelioma Test, Rosetta Genomics, Adds CAP Accreditation to US Lab
April 2, 2010 — Rosetta Genomics, a developer of microRNA–based cancer diagnostic tests, has been awarded accreditation by the Laboratory Accreditation Program of the College of American Pathologists (CAP). This accreditation is in addition to the CLIA certification held by Rosetta Genomics’ Philadelphia laboratory under the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA), and the ISO 13485 accreditation of Rosetta Genomics R&D lab in Israel.
For those that need precise cancer diagnosis, particularly potential mesothelioma patients, further accreditation for Rosetta’s lab reinforces their focus on precision. For their mesothelioma test, Rosetta lists the sensitivity and specificity at 100% and 94%, based on their data. This level of precision can be of great use in reducing the doubt over the accuracy of the diagnosis of mesothelioma. The miRview mesothelioma test is unique, measuring microRNA from the tumor sample to identify the cancer as mesothelioma or another type of cancer.
Accurately identifying cancer by type is important to make sure that proper treatment is started as quickly as possible. This is especially true for mesothelioma—a cancer that is highly aggressive. Further explanation of the process can be seen in the video below or by visiting the miRview site: http://www.mirviewdx.com/caremeso.html.
